Health, Vaccination & Screening Requirements

Before any dog joins open play, we confirm their vaccinations and complete a Camper screening interview. Both steps support the well-being of pups in our care.

Which Vaccines Are Required?

All dogs must be current on three vaccines: DHPP, Rabies, and Bordetella. The DHPP vaccine covers four serious, contagious illnesses: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. Puppies begin the DHPP series at 6 to 8 weeks old, with two boosters at 3-week intervals and a third booster a year later. Adult dogs continue on a schedule their veterinarian recommends. We also recommend the Leptospirosis vaccine annually because it can be deadly and can spread to humans.

Is There a Spay/Neuter Requirement?

Yes. Dogs must be spayed or neutered by 7 months of age to participate in daycare or boarding. Hormonal changes at sexual maturity can affect group play safety, so this requirement supports the whole pack.

What Is the Camper Screening Interview?

Every new dog completes a Camper screening interview before joining open play. Our Certified Camp Counselors use it to assess temperament, energy level, and social behavior. We continue monitoring after a dog is admitted to support a safe and fun visit.

What’s Included in Overnight Dog Boarding?

Boarding is all-inclusive with no hidden fees. Overnight guests get an individual Cabin with a cozy cot, fleece blanket, and a nightly Campfire Treat™. Medication administration and dog daycare access during a boarding stay are both included at no extra cost. Pet parents can check in on their dog through our live web cameras any time.

How Are Play Groups Organized?

Campers are separated in play yards by activity level, temperament, and size so dogs play with compatible companions.

Should I Feed My Dog Before Drop-Off?

We recommend feeding your dog at least 1.5 hours before arriving at Camp. This helps prevent bloat, which can develop when dogs eat and then jump straight into vigorous activity.

Does St. Clair Shores Have More Than One Camp Bow Wow?

Yes. There are two locations: the original camp welcoming dogs of all sizes and Lil’ Campers St. Clair Shores, a camp dedicated to dogs under 40 lbs. If you have a smaller breed, Lil’ Campers gives your pup a play environment sized just right for them.

How Do I Schedule a Camper Interview?

Call us at (586) 500-7244 or create a Camp Bow Wow account through the website or mobile app. Once your account is set up, you can manage your dog’s profile, Camper information, and reservations all in one place. New dogs must complete the interview before their first daycare or boarding visit.
