The Do’s and Don'ts of Your Doggy Beach Day

Dog running on beach

Visiting the beach is one of the best parts of summer - and when you can do it with your favorite furry friend, it’s even better! Bringing your dog to the beach is a great way to get them the exercise they need while enjoying being outdoors, enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery together.

As you prep for your next beach day together, here are some do’s and don’ts that will help keep your pup safe and our beaches clean.

Do Come Prepared

Pack all the essentials, not just for you, but for your pup as well. Be sure to bring:

  • Plenty of water
  • Food & treats
  • An extra towel
  • Canine sunscreen
  • An umbrella
  • Toys

While this may seem like a lot to pack, it is important to have things that will make your dog feel comfortable, fed, and entertained throughout the day.

Don’t Leave Behind a Mess

It’s important to keep our beaches clean so we can continue to use and enjoy them for years to come. As you spend the day in the sand with your pup, clean up after them as they poop and play. When leaving the beach, take all of your belongings with you, including trash.

Do Watch Them Closely

Dog-friendly beaches often allow pups to be off their leashes and roam freely. Make sure they are properly trained if you decide to remove their leash. Either way, keep an eye on your dog at all times.

Don’t Make Assumptions

Remember: not every beach is dog-friendly and not everyone is a dog person. Do your research ahead of time to see if your pup is allowed on the beach. If they are, keep them from disrupting other groups or wandering off.

Do Have Fun

Follow these do’s and don’ts and your beach day will be a success! Your pup is sure to love running around in the sand, playing in the water, and spending time with you.
