By blending your preferences with our structured Camp schedule, we create a day that feels both exciting and predictable for your dog, which can be especially reassuring for first-time Campers or younger pups who are still getting used to time away from home.

Those quick check-ins show you real-time play and let you see how your dog interacts with both friends and counselors. Over time, you get to know the Camp rhythm and can spot your pup’s favorite hangout spots in the yard, which makes the dog day care in New Castle County feel like an extension of your own backyard.
Benefits of Choosing Dog Day Care
Dog day care offers more than just supervision; it enriches your pet’s daily routine in meaningful ways. Some key benefits include:
- Improved Social Skills: Regular interaction with other dogs helps reduce anxiety and encourages friendly behavior.
- Healthy Physical Activity: Structured playtime and exercise support better physical health and weight management.
- Mental Stimulation: Engaging activities and new environments keep your dog’s mind active and curious.
- Reduced Boredom & Destructive Behavior: A full day of stimulation and play can help prevent unwanted habits caused by boredom or excess energy.
- Peace of Mind for Pet Parents: Know your dog is in safe, caring hands while you're at work or away for the day.
For many households, long workdays or frequent errands mean dogs spend long stretches alone. Over time, that can lead to restlessness, excessive barking, or even attempts to escape the yard. Regular visits to day care give dogs an outlet for their energy and natural curiosity. Instead of watching the clock until you get home, your pup spends the day moving, sniffing, and playing in a controlled environment, then returns home ready to relax with you in the evening.
We also see big benefits for shy or younger dogs who are still figuring out how to interact politely with others. In our supervised play groups, dogs practice greeting new friends, taking turns with toys, and responding to guidance from our counselors. Because the environment is structured and monitored, dogs can build confidence at their own pace. Over time, many of our Campers become more comfortable on walks in busy neighborhoods and during visits to local parks because they have already learned how to handle exciting situations calmly.
Serving Local Pets and Families
We invite pets from Wilmington, Middletown, and Bear to Glasgow, Brookside, and Hockessin to our state-of-the-art dog daycare. Whenever you have a full day scheduled or your pet is showing signs of separation anxiety, we're here to help your pet socialize and have fun in a safe environment, and give you peace of mind.
Because New Castle County includes both bustling downtown streets and quieter suburban neighborhoods, we meet dogs with very different daily routines and comfort levels. Some of our Campers are used to long walks along the Christina Riverfront, while others mainly explore their own backyard. At Camp, they all get the chance to experience new sights and sounds at a pace that feels comfortable, with our team watching closely for signs that a dog might need a break or a slower introduction to new friends.
Many families schedule day care visits around their own routines, such as workdays in Wilmington, classes at the University of Delaware, or day trips downstate. We offer flexible options so you can choose the schedule that makes the most sense for your household, whether that means weekly visits or more occasional stays when you know you will be out longer than usual. Our goal is to be a dependable part of your support system, so you never have to choose between your to-do list and your dog’s well-being.
Dog Day Care Options and Scheduling Flexibility
Every family in New Castle County manages a different routine, so we offer flexible dog day care options to match your schedule. Some pet parents need steady weekday care, while others only visit on particularly busy days or before an early-morning trip. By offering a variety of stay lengths and timing options, we help you create a plan that supports your dog without adding stress to your own calendar.
You can choose from full-day or partial-day visits depending on how long you will be away and how much activity your dog enjoys. For example, high-energy pups who love to run and play may thrive with a full schedule of activities, while older dogs might do best with a shorter day that combines gentle social time with longer rest breaks. If your work schedule changes, you can adjust future reservations so day care remains a helpful resource instead of another fixed obligation.
Many local families also coordinate day care with other services at our Newark-area facility, such as scheduling a day of play before an Overnight Camp stay. This kind of planning helps your dog ease into longer visits by getting comfortable with our counselors and play yards first. Whether you need a single day of care while you attend an event in Wilmington or recurring visits that line up with your commuting days, we work with you to build a schedule that keeps your dog happy and cared for.
Preparing Your Dog for a Great First Day
A little preparation can make your dog’s first visit to our Camp day care smoother and more enjoyable. We encourage you to think about your dog’s routine and comfort items ahead of time so we can create a familiar experience from the moment you arrive. When dogs recognize parts of their normal day at Camp, they tend to relax more quickly and settle into play with new friends.
Before your first visit, we recommend making sure vaccinations are up to date and gathering any paperwork we may need, so check-in is quick. It can also help to give your dog a chance to stretch their legs with a short walk before arriving, which takes the edge off any extra excitement. If your dog has a favorite treat or needs a particular feeding schedule, letting us know in advance allows us to incorporate those details into their day.
On the morning of your first reservation, try to keep your own mood calm and upbeat, as dogs often pick up on our emotions. Allow a few extra minutes at drop-off so we can answer last-minute questions and help your dog explore the lobby at their own pace. Many dogs that are slightly unsure at first become eager to rush through the doors on later visits because they learn that Camp means familiar counselors, fun activities, and a predictable routine that fits right into their life at home.

Dog Day Care FAQs
Have questions? Camp Bow Wow Delaware North is here to help!
-
Yes, Camp Bow Wow requires all dogs attending daycare to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s also recommended that dogs receive the Leptospirosis vaccine annually, as it can be deadly and spread to humans.
The DHPP vaccine protects dogs from four serious and contagious illnesses: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.
Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs continue booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion usually given every 1–3 years.
In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all dogs attending daycare at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog daycare, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.
-
Camp Bow Wow requires all dogs must be spayed or neutered at 7 months of age in order to receive daycare and boarding services.
- Camp Bow Wow understands that the choice to spay or neuter and at what age is a decision to be made for each individual dog and by the dog’s owner and veterinarian.
- For safety in a play group, dogs must be spayed or neutered by 7 months of age to take part in boarding or daycare services at Camp Bow Wow.
- As dogs reach sexual maturity, they are able to reproduce and hormonal changes occur that can alter behavior or may cause tension amongst other dogs within the group dynamic. This can impact the safety of all Campers and is not advised for open play environments.
-
Dogs staying overnight can be dropped off anytime that day during Camp hours. We suggest arriving before 4 p.m., so they can play, eat, and play again before bedtime. While you can check your pup in and out anytime during Camp hours at no additional cost, we do request you pick them up 15 minutes before closing, so we can tuck in our Overnight Campers.
-
This measure is to ensure the safety of all our Campers. Dogs can become possessive of toys, which can cause an altercation. If small pieces are torn off or broken off, a dog could choke or swallow and cause an obstruction.
-
You can view the free live webcams on the Camp Bow Wow website via your computer, tablet, or mobile device. We also invite you to download our iPhone or Android app to easily access the cameras from anywhere. The cameras are on during business hours when the pups are at play. Many locations offer luxury suites with 24/7 access to the suite’s webcam.
