Getting Started with Dog Boarding at Camp Bow Wow
New to Camp? Here’s what to expect before your dog’s first boarding stay.
The Camper Interview
Every first-time dog completes a complimentary Camper Interview before joining the group. This behavioral assessment lets our Camp Counselors confirm that your dog is comfortable and well-suited for open group play. It helps protect your pup and every other dog in the yard.
Vaccine Records
Current vaccination records for Rabies, Distemper (DHPP), and Bordetella are required before the first visit. Have those ready when you schedule the Camper Interview to keep things moving smoothly.
Making a Reservation
You can book by phone at (813) 536-5982 or online at my.campbowwow.com. If you’re planning around a holiday or peak summer window, booking ahead is strongly recommended. Demand for dog boarding in the Tampa South Shore area can spike during busy travel seasons, and availability can fill quickly.
Check-In Day
At drop-off, let our team know about any dietary preferences, medications, or comfort routines your dog has. The more we know, the better we can tailor the stay. From there, your job is to enjoy your trip while we handle everything else.
Facility Boarding vs. Other Options Riverview Dog Owners Consider
Most pet parents weighing their options land on three choices: a purpose-built boarding facility like Camp, a vet hospital’s boarding service, or an in-home pet sitter. Each approach is genuinely different, and the right fit depends on what matters most to you and your dog.
Veterinary Hospital Boarding
Vet hospitals offer boarding as a secondary service, typically providing kennel rest and leashed walks. The medical staff on-site can be reassuring for dogs with ongoing health conditions, but group socialization and open play aren’t part of the model. For healthy, active dogs that need daily enrichment and interaction, a clinical environment isn’t always the best match.
In-Home Pet Sitting
A sitter who stays in your home keeps your dog in familiar surroundings, which works well for anxious or older dogs that don’t thrive around other animals. The trade-off is variability: training levels, accountability, and safety standards differ significantly from one sitter to the next, and you don’t have real-time visibility into what’s happening at home.
Structured Facility Boarding
A purpose-built play-and-stay facility provides trained staff, a consistent group-play environment, structured socialization, and verifiable safety standards. For social, active dogs, it’s often the option that can send them home tired and happy rather than restless from a day spent waiting.

Camp Bow Wow requires all boarding dogs to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s recommended that the Leptospirosis vaccine also be included annually, as it’s more common, can be deadly to dogs, and can spread to humans.
The DHPP vaccine protects against four serious and highly contagious diseases: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can affect a dog’s respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems, and can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.
Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs receive booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion typically given every 1–3 years.
In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all boarding dogs at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog boarding, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.
Watch Your Dog Play from Anywhere
One of the hardest parts of leaving your dog behind is not knowing how they’re doing. Our live webcams solve that. During your dog’s boarding stay at Camp Bow Wow Tampa South Shore, you can log in from a computer or mobile device and watch them play in real time: no guessing, no waiting for a status update. If your pup is romping around the play yard with a new friend, you’ll see it yourself.
That kind of visibility is something in-home care can’t replicate, and it’s one more reason Riverview dog owners come back to Camp for every trip.
