A Day in the Life at Camp: What Boarding Dogs Experience

Boarding dogs at Camp Bow Wow New Orleans aren’t waiting out the hours in a run. From the moment they arrive, Campers join group play in our spacious indoor and outdoor yards, staying active and social throughout the day under constant supervision from our Camp Counselors. As the evening winds down, each dog settles into its own Cabin on a comfy cot with a fleece blanket and receives a nightly Campfire Treat™ before lights out.

We recommend dropping off boarding dogs before 4 PM so they have time to play, eat, and settle into their routine before bedtime. Plan to pick up at least 15 minutes before closing, and bring your dog’s food, any medications, and comfort items from home. Familiar scents can help ease a dog’s first stay. Individual attention from Camp Counselors is part of every boarding stay, and grooming and training services are available as add-ons to make the visit a complete experience for your pup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Vaccinations Are Required for Dog Boarding?

All boarding dogs must be current on Rabies, Distemper (DHPP), and Bordetella vaccinations before their first stay. DHPP covers Distemper, Hepatitis/Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. We also recommend the Leptospirosis vaccine, though it isn’t required. Dogs seven months and older must be spayed or neutered.

Does Camp Bow Wow New Orleans Offer Extended Boarding?

Yes. We accommodate extended stays for pet parents who need boarding for longer trips. Stays of 10 nights or more may qualify for a discount. Contact us to discuss your dog’s needs and confirm availability.

Do You Accept All Dog Breeds for Boarding?

We accept dogs of all breeds and sizes for overnight boarding, subject to passing the free Camper Interview. Some city ordinances or insurance policies may affect individual dogs. The Interview Day is the best way to confirm your dog is a good fit for camp.

What Are the Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times for Overnight Boarding?

We recommend dropping off boarding dogs before 4 PM to give them time to play, eat, and settle before bedtime. Pick-up should happen at least 15 minutes before closing.

How Does the Boarding Process Work?

Every new Camper must complete a free Interview Day before their first boarding stay. Once your dog passes the interview, book your reservation, bring their food, medications, and any comfort items from home, and drop off before 4 PM on your first boarding day. Our Camp Counselors take it from there.

Dog Boarding FAQs

Have questions? Camp Bow Wow New Orleans is here to help!

  • Overnight dog boarding costs vary by location, the type of accommodations, and what’s included. At Camp Bow Wow, nightly boarding rates include all-day open-play daycare, a comfortable sleeping space, and hands-on care from trained staff, with straightforward, all-inclusive pricing whenever possible. Your local Camp can provide exact overnight rates and help you choose the best boarding options for your pup’s needs.

  • At Camp Bow Wow, boarding includes all-day open-play daycare, a cozy Camp sleeping area, feeding, medications, webcam access, and attentive care from Certified Camp Counselors®. Sf Optional add-ons like enrichment, training, or bath and grooming , may be available at your Camp Bow Wow location.
  • Yes, holiday surcharges are common in dog boarding because these are peak times when space and staff are in higher demand. Many Camp Bow Wow locations may apply a small holiday fee or require minimum-night stays during major holidays to ensure we can provide safe, consistent care for every Camper. Your local Camp will share holiday rates and policies in advance so you can plan your pup’s stay with confidence.

  • Many Camp Bow Wow locations provide daily updates so you know how your pup is doing during dog daycare and boarding. Our Certified Camp Counselors® closely monitor each Camper’s behavior, play style, and overall well-being, and can share how your pup ate, played, rested, and made new friends. Some Camps also offer digital “report cards,” photos, or notes, so you get added peace of mind while your four-legged family member enjoys their stay - check with your local Camp for specific update options.
  • Camp Bow Wow requires all boarding dogs to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s recommended that the Leptospirosis vaccine also be included annually, as it’s more common, can be deadly to dogs, and can spread to humans.

The DHPP vaccine protects against four serious and highly contagious diseases: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can affect a dog’s respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems, and can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.

Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs receive booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion typically given every 1–3 years.

In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all boarding dogs at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog boarding, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.
