How We Provide a Dog Hotel Experience at Camp Bow Wow®

Our boarding services go beyond a standard kennel—we create a true dog hotel experience where comfort and fun come first.

During the day, we keep dogs active and engaged with a balance of playtime, rest, and one-on-one attention. Campers enjoy rotating time in our play yards so they can run, sniff, and explore, followed by breaks where they can relax and recharge. This rhythm helps prevent overstimulation and supports healthier sleep at night. We also pay close attention to each dog’s body language and energy level, adjusting their schedule if they seem tired, shy, or extra playful on a particular day.

Key features of our services include:

  • Spacious Play Yards – Indoor and outdoor play areas encourage safe exercise and socialization.
  • Cozy, Climate-Controlled Cabins – Restful sleeping spaces designed for comfort and security.
  • Safety First – Camper evaluations, strict hygiene protocols, and 24/7 supervision keep every guest safe and happy.
  • Certified Camp Counselors® – Each team member is trained in dog behavior, CPR, and pet first aid.
  • Customized Care – We accommodate special diets, administer medication, and honor unique requests at no extra cost. Add a grooming service so your dog returns home clean and fresh!

If your dog is staying with us for several nights, we can add in extra enrichment activities to keep their mind engaged, such as puzzle feeders, structured fetch sessions, or gentle brushing time for dogs that enjoy being pampered. We talk with you about what your dog enjoys most so we can suggest options that fit their personality and age. This personalized approach helps transform a typical dog hotel in Alanton into a stay that feels thoughtfully tailored to your pup.

Why Pet Families in Alanton Choose Our Overnight Dog Boarding

Whether you’re heading on vacation, a weekend getaway, or a business trip, our overnight dog boarding is a trusted choice for pet parents throughout Virginia Beach.

Benefits include:

  • Engaging Play & Activities – Daily enrichment and supervised socialization to keep pups active and happy.
  • Campfire Treats™ Before Bedtime – A sweet ending to each fun-filled day.
  • Live Webcam Access – Check in anytime to watch your dog enjoying their stay.
  • Routine & Comfort – Cozy sleeping quarters and outdoor areas help dogs maintain their normal rhythm, reducing stress.

How Our Dog Boarding Enrollment Process Works

When you call to reserve a stay, we walk you through typical schedules and what to expect from our dog boarding service so you can decide what fits your travel plans. We will confirm check-in and checkout times, talk through your dog’s feeding routine, and answer questions about playgroups or rest periods. This is a good time to mention any concerns, such as separation anxiety or crate training, so we can plan ahead and note special instructions on your dog’s file.

Booking your dog’s stay is simple and stress-free:

  • Reserve Your Spot – Call or request an appointment online. We recommend booking early for holidays and peak travel periods.
  • Behavioral Assessment – First-time Campers must pass an initial Camper Interview to ensure comfort and readiness for group play.
  • Vaccination Records – All dogs must be current on rabies, Bordetella, and distemper/parvo vaccinations as required in Virginia Beach.
  • Drop-Off – Bring your pup and clearly labeled items. Our staff will review dietary, medical, and comfort details for a smooth transition.
  • Pickup – Return to a happy, clean Camper. Optional dog grooming before pickup keeps your dog looking and smelling great.

Consider Familiarizing Your Pup with Our Camp Through Daycare

Many first-time boarders start with a day care visit before their first overnight so they can get used to the sights, sounds, and smells of Camp. This approach is popular with pet parents who live in nearby communities and want to ease their dogs into the experience gradually. When it is time for an extended trip, your dog will already recognize our team, know where to rest, and feel more comfortable settling in for multiple nights.

Careful Observation and Clear Communication From Drop-Off to Pickup

During your dog’s stay, our staff monitors how they are eating, resting, and interacting with other dogs. If we notice changes in appetite, behavior, or energy level, we note those observations and, when appropriate, contact you to discuss what we are seeing. This ongoing communication helps you feel more connected to your dog’s experience even when you are traveling far from Virginia Beach and cannot stop by in person.

Preparing Your Dog For Overnight Boarding

A little preparation before check-in can make your dog’s stay smoother and more enjoyable. We encourage you to think about your pup’s daily routine in Alanton and share those details with us so we can mirror it as closely as possible. Knowing when your dog typically eats, naps, and goes outside helps us plan their schedule and ease the transition from home to Camp.

In the weeks leading up to a longer trip, it can be helpful to schedule one or two day care visits so your dog becomes familiar with our building, staff, and play yards. Many families use these shorter stays as a practice run for an overnight dog boarding service, especially for younger dogs or those that have never been away from home. By the time a multi-night reservation arrives, your dog already recognizes the routine, which often means less anxiety for both of you.

Gathering the right items for drop-off also sets your dog up for success. Pack enough of their regular food for the entire stay, along with clear written feeding instructions, so we can keep their diet consistent and reduce the chance of an upset stomach. Include any medications in original containers with dosing directions, plus one washable comfort item that smells like home. These small steps help your pup feel secure and make it easier for us to deliver the kind of attentive doggie boarding experience pet parents in Virginia Beach are looking for.

Our Certified Camp Counselors® closely monitor each Camper’s behavior, play style, and overall well-being, and can share how your pup ate, played, rested, and made new friends. Some Camps also offer digital “report cards,” photos, or notes, so you get added peace of mind while your four-legged family member enjoys their stay - check with your local Camp for specific update options.
  • Camp Bow Wow requires all boarding dogs to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s recommended that the Leptospirosis vaccine also be included annually, as it’s more common, can be deadly to dogs, and can spread to humans.

The DHPP vaccine protects against four serious and highly contagious diseases: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can affect a dog’s respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems, and can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.

Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs receive booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion typically given every 1–3 years.

In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all boarding dogs at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog boarding, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.
