April 2025
With warm weather comes additional responsibilities for keeping dogs safe from seasonal hazards. Following some simple precautions can prevent injuries or emergencies.
- Spring Plant Safety: Be aware of plants like lilies, rhododendrons, and azaleas that are harmful to dogs if ingested. Opt for pet-safe fertilizers that won't harm pup paws.
- Watch for Warm Weather Risks: Avoid overexerting your dog when temperatures rise - plan to take cool down breaks and provide plenty of water.
- Spring Cleaning Safety: Keep cleaning products safely out of reach from curious noses and paws. You can also opt for natural and pet-safe cleaning solutions.
- Be Alert on Trails and Hikes: Watch for foxtails and burrs getting stuck in paws, ears, and coats on nature walks. Use flea/tick preventatives when exploring woodsy areas and be cautious of snakes emerging from hibernation in rocky/wooded areas.
Whether you are going on a trip or have busy days ahead with your spring to-dos, Camp is here for your pup! Camp is the stir-crazy cure and their home away from home where your fur baby can socialize and play safely with other dogs.

January Dog Safety: Keeping Your Pup Happy and Healthy in the Winter
Winter is here, and while the colder months bring their own kind of beauty, they also come with unique challenges for keeping your furry friends safe and comfortable. At Camp Bow Wow Towson, we know how much you care about your pups, so we’ve compiled some essential tips for dog safety during January’s chillier days.
1. Bundle Up for Outdoor Adventures
While some dogs love the cold, others may need an extra layer to stay warm. Smaller breeds, short-haired dogs, and senior pups can benefit from cozy sweaters or dog jackets. Make sure their winter wardrobe fits properly and allows for easy movement. Always limit outdoor playtime during extreme cold to prevent hypothermia or frostbite.
2. Protect Their Paws
Snow, ice, and rock salt can be tough on sensitive paws. To prevent discomfort or injury, wipe your pup’s paws after outdoor walks to remove ice and de-icing chemicals. You can also invest in dog booties or use a paw balm to protect and moisturize their pads.
3. Stay Hydrated
Just like in summer, hydration is key during the winter months. Dry, cold air can cause dehydration, so ensure your dog always has access to fresh water, especially after playing outdoors.
4. Watch Out for Hidden Dangers
Antifreeze and other winter chemicals can be toxic to dogs. Always clean up spills and store chemicals out of reach. When walking, keep an eye out for puddles your pup might drink from—they could contain harmful substances.
5. Keep Them Visible
With shorter daylight hours, visibility is crucial during evening walks. Equip your dog with a reflective harness or leash, and consider using a light-up collar to keep them safe and visible to cars and cyclists.
6. Provide Mental Stimulation Indoors
When the weather is too harsh for extended outdoor play, keep your dog entertained indoors. Puzzle toys, treat-dispensing games, and enrichment activities can help your pup burn off energy while staying cozy.
7. Monitor Their Health
Cold weather can exacerbate certain health conditions like arthritis. If your dog seems stiff or uncomfortable, consult your vet for advice. Additionally, maintain regular grooming to prevent matting, which can reduce your dog’s natural insulation.
8. Don’t Forget ID Tags
Winter gear like coats and sweaters can cover up collars and ID tags. Ensure your dog’s identification is visible or consider microchipping as an extra precaution, just in case they get lost.
At Camp Bow Wow Towson, we’re here to help your pups stay safe, healthy, and happy no matter the season. Whether they’re joining us for daycare, boarding, or enrichment activities, you can trust that we’ll provide them with all the care they need.
