Frequently Asked Questions
What Should I Look for in a Dog Day Care?
When choosing a dog day care, prioritize safety, transparency, and a nurturing environment. Look for facilities with open-play areas that allow for socialization under trained supervision. Ensure they provide clear pricing with no hidden fees, and check if they offer features like webcams for peace of mind. At Camp Bow Wow Plano, we fulfill all these criteria and more, ensuring your dog’s safety and happiness are never compromised.
Before committing to a new dog day care, many dog parents also schedule a tour so they can see the play yards, rest areas, and cleaning routines firsthand. Visiting the facility in person, asking about vaccination requirements, and learning how new dogs are introduced into play groups can help you feel confident that the environment is right for your companion and reflects the standards you expect for their daily care.
As you compare options, consider these key questions to ask each dog day care:
- Supervision and staffing: How many team members watch each play group, and are they trained in dog behavior and basic first aid?
- Playstyle and grouping: How are dogs matched into groups, and what happens if your dog seems shy or overwhelmed?
- Health and cleanliness routines: How often are play areas cleaned, and what are the policies for illness or contagious conditions?
- Communication with pet parents: How will the staff share updates during the day and after your dog’s visit?
How Do I Know If My Dog Is a Good Fit?
Most day cares, including ours, conduct a thorough Camper screening process to assess temperament compatibility in a group play setting. It’s crucial that your dog enjoys socialization, and our staff evaluates each dog’s behavior to ensure they’ll thrive in our open-play environment, maximizing their fun and comfort.
During this process, our team will ask you questions about your dog’s history, preferences, and routines so we can understand what makes them feel comfortable. Sharing details like how your dog reacts to new people, other dogs, and unfamiliar noises helps us place them in the most suitable play group and create a smoother transition into their new daytime routine at our dog day care.
What Activities Are Offered at Dog Day Cares?
Dog day cares should offer a mix of structured and unstructured activities. At Camp Bow Wow Plano, we provide social playtime, enrichment activities, and rest periods tailored to each dog’s needs. Our spacious indoor and outdoor areas support exercise and exploration, promoting a well-rounded day of fun and relaxation for all pups.
An enhanced activities program includes agility courses, interactive toys, and one-on-one play sessions to enhance mental stimulation and physical agility. These activities not only entertain but build confidence and cater to dogs' natural instincts, contributing to their overall development and happiness.
Some dogs prefer quiet puzzles and snuffle mats, while others are happiest racing through play structures or splashing in water features on warm Texas days. By observing your dog’s preferences over time, we can recommend the types of games, playmates, and rest routines that tend to leave them content and relaxed when you pick them up from dog day care.
What Methods Ensure the Safety of My Dog?
Safety is paramount. We implement multiple measures to uphold it, such as comprehensive Camper screenings, continuous facility monitoring, and the presence of certified Camp Counselors at all times. These practices, combined with our dedication to maintaining a secure and stimulating environment, ensure your dog's welfare at every visit.
Further enhancing our safety framework, we maintain individual records on each dog’s health, behavior, and preferences. This detailed information allows us to tailor care and respond swiftly to any specific health or behavioral conditions, further safeguarding your dog’s experience with us. Regular audits of our protocols ensure ongoing compliance with the highest standards of care and safety.
We also coordinate closely with local veterinarians in the Allen area so that, if a health concern arises during a visit, we can communicate clearly about your dog’s condition and any next steps. Allen FAQs
Have questions? Camp Bow Wow Plano is here to help!
-
Yes, Camp Bow Wow requires all dogs attending daycare to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s also recommended that dogs receive the Leptospirosis vaccine annually, as it can be deadly and spread to humans.
The DHPP vaccine protects dogs from four serious and contagious illnesses: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.
Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs continue booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion usually given every 1–3 years.
In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all dogs attending daycare at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog daycare, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.
-
Camp Bow Wow requires all dogs must be spayed or neutered at 7 months of age in order to receive daycare and boarding services.
- Camp Bow Wow understands that the choice to spay or neuter and at what age is a decision to be made for each individual dog and by the dog’s owner and veterinarian.
- For safety in a play group, dogs must be spayed or neutered by 7 months of age to take part in boarding or daycare services at Camp Bow Wow.
- As dogs reach sexual maturity, they are able to reproduce and hormonal changes occur that can alter behavior or may cause tension amongst other dogs within the group dynamic. This can impact the safety of all Campers and is not advised for open play environments.
-
Dogs staying overnight can be dropped off anytime that day during Camp hours. We suggest arriving before 4 p.m., so they can play, eat, and play again before bedtime. While you can check your pup in and out anytime during Camp hours at no additional cost, we do request you pick them up 15 minutes before closing, so we can tuck in our Overnight Campers.
-
This measure is to ensure the safety of all our Campers. Dogs can become possessive of toys, which can cause an altercation. If small pieces are torn off or broken off, a dog could choke or swallow and cause an obstruction.
-
You can view the free live webcams on the Camp Bow Wow website via your computer, tablet, or mobile device. We also invite you to download our iPhone or Android app to easily access the cameras from anywhere. The cameras are on during business hours when the pups are at play. Many locations offer luxury suites with 24/7 access to the suite’s webcam.
