Why Regular Grooming Is Good for Your Dog’s Health

Grooming isn’t just about appearances. Keeping your dog’s nails at a healthy length and coat clean can benefit their health over time.

Overgrown nails change how a dog distributes weight when walking. Over time, that altered gait can contribute to joint discomfort and posture problems. Most dogs benefit from trimming roughly every three to six weeks, though growth rate and activity level affect that timeline.

Regular bathing clears allergens, excess oils, and environmental debris that accumulate in a dog’s coat. Left in place, those irritants can cause skin inflammation and persistent odor. A clean coat is also easier to check for bumps, dry patches, or changes in skin condition.

Anal Gland Expression & Veterinary Guidance

Dogs with anal gland issues need individualized guidance from a veterinarian. Your veterinarian can advise whether expression belongs in your dog’s grooming schedule. For some dogs, a veterinarian may recommend anal gland expression every four to eight weeks and coordinate that schedule with the dog’s regular grooming routine.

Vaccine Requirements & What to Know Before Your Dog’s First Grooming Visit

Before booking a grooming appointment, have a few things in place so your pup’s visit goes smoothly.

Vaccine Requirements

Dogs visiting for grooming need to be current on core vaccinations, including Rabies, Distemper, Bivalent Flu, and Bordetella. Requirements can vary, so confirm what’s needed before your dog’s first appointment.

No Camper Interview Needed for Grooming-Only Visits

Dogs coming in for grooming only don’t need to complete the Camper Interview process required for daycare and boarding. If your dog is already a Camp regular, simply request grooming when you book.

Pricing Varies by Dog

Grooming prices can depend on your dog’s size and coat length, and published rates can change. The following rates should be confirmed before booking:

Fresh & Clean Shampoo & Dry: $39 for dogs weighing 0 to 20 pounds, $43 for 21 to 50 pounds, $47 for 51 to 80 pounds, and $55 for 81 pounds and over.
Doggie Deluxe: Add $15 for shampoo, conditioner, a brush out, blow-drying, ear cleaning, and nail care.
Ulti-Mutt: Add $25 for all Doggie Deluxe services, teeth brushing, and a Blueberry Facial.
Full-Service Grooming: $85 for dogs weighing 0 to 20 pounds, $100 for 21 to 50 pounds, $120 for 51 to 80 pounds, and $125 for 81 pounds and over. This service includes shampoo, conditioner, brushing, blow-drying, ear cleaning, nail care, and either a haircut of the pet parent’s choice or a de-shedding service.

Appointments are required for this service, and pet parents save 25% on their first Full-Service Groom.

A La Carte Services: Nail Trim/Grind is $19, Teeth Brushing is $15, and Ear Cleaning is $13. A Blueberry Facial is $5 when added to a bath or groom. De-matting and de-shedding cost $25 per additional 30 minutes and require a Full-Service Groom or Bath.

An exit bath is a bath scheduled at the end of your dog’s boarding or daycare stay so they go home clean and fresh after all their Camp adventures. We time it close to pick-up so your pup is dry, brushed, and ready for snuggles when you arrive. Just ask to add an exit bath when you book your Camper’s stay.
Most dogs benefit from a nail trim every 3–6 weeks, but it depends on how fast their nails grow and how much they naturally wear them down. If you can hear your pup’s nails clicking on the floor, it’s usually time for a trim. Our groomers can recommend a schedule that keeps your Camper’s paws healthy and comfortable.
Both nail grinding and clipping can be safe and effective when done properly. Clipping quickly shortens the nail, while grinding can smooth and round the edges, which some pups and pet parents prefer. Our team can talk through the options and help you choose what’s best for your dog’s comfort and nail health.
A typical dog bath service includes a gentle shampoo, a thorough rinse, towel and/or blow dry, and a brush-out suited to your pup’s coat. Some Camps may also offer add-ons like nail trims, ear cleaning, or de-shedding treatments. We’ll always let you know exactly what’s included so your pup gets the most out of their bath time.
Many pet parents love adding a bath at the end of a boarding stay or a big day of play so their pup comes home clean, soft, and cuddle-ready.
