Our Open-Play Environment

Our open-play environment is designed to let dogs be dogs. With ample space for romping and socializing, our indoor and outdoor areas are perfect for pups to make new friends. The watchful eyes of our certified Camp Counselors ensure a safe play experience. This dynamic setup not only promotes physical exercise but also nurtures dogs' social instincts.

In addition to encouraging physical activity, our setup supports mental stimulation and behavioral development. Dogs are exposed to a variety of structured activities that challenge their problem-solving abilities and enhance their social interactions. By meeting a wide range of breeds and personalities, each dog becomes more adaptable and confident, which are essential traits for their overall growth.

Here are some ways our open-play environment benefits your pup:

  • All-day supervised play gives dogs plenty of time to burn energy, explore different play styles, and enjoy positive interactions with other campers.
  • Indoor and outdoor spaces allow us to adjust to South Carolina weather while still providing consistent opportunities for movement and enrichment.
  • Small, compatible play groups help us match dogs by size, age, and temperament so each camper has a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Structured rest breaks ensure that even the most energetic pups get time to relax, reset, and avoid becoming overstimulated.

Safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Our rigorous Camper screening process and ongoing facility monitoring ensure a secure environment for all dogs. Additionally, our web cameras allow you to check in on your dog anytime, offering reassurance and connection throughout your pup's day at camp.

This includes having emergency procedures ready to be implemented should issues arise, and ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene are maintained throughout our facilities. Our dedication to safety is ingrained in our daily operations, underscoring our unwavering commitment to your pet's welfare.

Key steps we take to keep campers safe and comfortable:

  • Comprehensive Camper interviews help us understand each dog's history, temperament, and play style before they join group play.
  • Vaccination and health requirements follow applicable guidelines to reduce the risk of illness spreading among dogs.
  • Continuous staff supervision means Camp Counselors are always present in play yards to guide interactions and quickly redirect rough play.
  • Regular cleaning routines keep play areas, cabins, and common spaces fresh and sanitary throughout the day.

Planning Your Dog's First Day at Camp

We know that sending your pup to camp for the first time can feel like a big step, so we aim to make the experience as smooth and predictable as possible. Before your dog's first visit, we will review their vaccination records, temperament, and daily routine so we can help them settle in comfortably. Many families visit us from across Mount Pleasant and nearby Charleston neighborhoods, so we work hard to create a welcoming, consistent routine that helps dogs feel at ease from the moment they arrive.

On your dog's first day, we will introduce them slowly to our play yards and new friends, starting with smaller groups and building up as they grow more confident. Our team keeps you updated about how your pup is doing, so you know when they are playing, resting, or enjoying some one-on-one attention. If you are comparing different options for dog day care near Mount Pleasant, this gradual, thoughtful introduction can be a helpful way to see how your dog responds to a group setting.

To help you prepare, we encourage you to think about your dog's normal schedule, feeding needs, and any special routines that keep them comfortable at home. Sharing this information with us lets our team mirror parts of your dog's daily rhythm, which can make their time at camp feel familiar and reassuring. Over time, many dogs start pulling toward our front door as soon as they recognize the route, because they associate Camp Bow Wow with fun, friends, and a positive routine.

Dog Day Care FAQs

Have questions? Camp Bow Wow Charleston is here to help!

  • Yes, Camp Bow Wow requires all dogs attending daycare to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s also recommended that dogs receive the Leptospirosis vaccine annually, as it can be deadly and spread to humans.

The DHPP vaccine protects dogs from four serious and contagious illnesses: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.

Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs continue booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion usually given every 1–3 years.

In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all dogs attending daycare at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog daycare, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.

  • Camp Bow Wow requires all dogs must be spayed or neutered at 7 months of age in order to receive daycare and boarding services.

    • Camp Bow Wow understands that the choice to spay or neuter and at what age is a decision to be made for each individual dog and by the dog’s owner and veterinarian.
    • For safety in a play group, dogs must be spayed or neutered by 7 months of age to take part in boarding or daycare services at Camp Bow Wow.
    • As dogs reach sexual maturity, they are able to reproduce and hormonal changes occur that can alter behavior or may cause tension amongst other dogs within the group dynamic. This can impact the safety of all Campers and is not advised for open play environments.
  • Dogs staying overnight can be dropped off anytime that day during Camp hours. We suggest arriving before 4 p.m., so they can play, eat, and play again before bedtime. While you can check your pup in and out anytime during Camp hours at no additional cost, we do request you pick them up 15 minutes before closing, so we can tuck in our Overnight Campers.

  • This measure is to ensure the safety of all our Campers. Dogs can become possessive of toys, which can cause an altercation. If small pieces are torn off or broken off, a dog could choke or swallow and cause an obstruction.

  • You can view the free live webcams on the Camp Bow Wow website via your computer, tablet, or mobile device. We also invite you to download our iPhone or Android app to easily access the cameras from anywhere. The cameras are on during business hours when the pups are at play. Many locations offer luxury suites with 24/7 access to the suite’s webcam.
