Camp Bow Wow's Buddies Foundation is sending Therapy Dogs to Newtown, Connecticut. This philanthropic initiative will bring specially trained therapy dogs (in working with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome sufferers) to the Newtown, Connecticut community. We are covering the cost for Freedom Service Dogs and the world-renowned Institute for Human-Animal Connection at the University of Denver to send an eight-person team of PTSD trained therapists and PTSD service dogs to spend up to two weeks to the Newtown community doing all they can to help the survivors and their families deal with the horrible tragedy.
As a follow up, the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation is lending a paw by fundraising to have Freedom Service Dogs train four therapy pups ($25,000 each) that will reside in the Newtown community for the years to come with therapists there. This will certainly be a long, difficult road ahead and our hope is the dogs will spend time with their trained therapists in the schools, with first responders, at community events and with the families that lost loved ones in this tragedy. Freedom Service Dogs selects their dogs from animal shelters, so not only will furry lives will be saved, but they will be given the opportunity to have an amazing role in the recovery of a community that desperately needs support.
The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation will accept donations to the “Scout’s Angels” project between December 21, 2012 and January 4, 2013 via the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation Website www.bowwowbuddies.com or clients can donate via check to the BWBF at your Camps/Home Buddies locations. Time is of the essence as the dogs will take approximately 3 months (at a minimum) to train so we need to get started ASAP to get them placed in the community as soon as possible, while the need is greatest.
