Lori Thelen had a dream back in high school. That dream was to own and operate her own dog daycare center.
A couple of decades and three raised children later, Lori is finally chasing her dream.
As her youngest daughter neared graduation in June, Lori and her husband, Kevin, began exploring dog daycare and boarding centers. After visiting a Camp Bow Wow facility in another city, Lori was sold on the concept and began making plans to open her own Camp Bow Wow, which will become a reality in August.
"I'm such a dog lover that owning a dog daycare facility seemed like a natural choice," Lori said. "You hear people say that they have the best job in the world, but I really do. I'm going to be running a business taking care of all kinds of dogs. I can't wait to get started."
Camp Bow Wow will actually be very much a family affair. Lori and her son, Adam Schellhammer, will work full time at Camp Bow Wow as the Camp Ranger. Lori's husband, Kevin, is an engineer at Honda in Marysville, where he will continue to work. He will fill in during evenings and on weekends and the Hilliard facility.
Their daughters, Emily, a student at the University of Arizona, and Michelle, who will be a freshman at the University of Dayton, will help out around the camp during their vacations.
"We're a family of dog lovers, so the owners of dogs can expect their pet to be treated with the same care they receive at home," Lori said. "We're all anxious to get started."
