More information on Bordetella:
Bordetella or Canine Cough (Infectious Tracheobronchitis) is a highly contagious upper-respiratory disease which is spread by an air-borne virus, similar to a flu in humans. Dog can pass the disease through contact at the vet's office, groomers, dog park, casually passing on a sidewalk, or even at a boarding facility like Camp Bow Wow. This is why we require a Bordetella vaccination every 6 months. The vaccination must also be given four to seven days to become effective. This waiting period must occur before your pup can come into Camp. Canine Cough is treated like any common cold, it can only just run its course, and unfortunately, dogs with the illness cannot come and play at Camp.
Symptoms of Canine Cough is a gagging cough, sometimes accompanied by sneezing and nasal discharge. It can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Although this coughing is very annoying, it does not usually develop into anything more serious, but it is recommended to be treated by a vet. It can increase a dog's susceptibility to secondary infection. If your dog is showing signs of Canine Cough, take them to a vet and notify Camp Bow Wow if they have had a receint visit.
Your cooperation with Camp Bow Wow and our requirements is greatly appreciated and helps make our play environments enjoyable and safe for every Canine Camper!
