Camper of the Month

Say hello to our Camper of the Month for February: Ben!

Ben’s owner Chris sent in a wonderful write up on Ben:

"We met Ben at the MHS Westland shelter four years ago- all we know about his life before he came into ours is that he's from Kentucky. Ben is the sweetest, calmest, most caring and loving ball of fluffiness we've ever met!

At home, Ben loves to dig in the snow (he's a real snow dog, and enjoys sleeping in a big snow drift), guard against the evil squirrel empire, and sleep!  When we first got Ben, we tried a few different words to find out if he'd learned any from his previous family: the only ones we tried that he knew were "sit", "hungry?" and"squirrel!"

We welcomed our son Elliott into our family a couple of years ago, and Ben loves to walk with him through the woods behind our house.  Sweet story: When Elliott was a baby, Ben would walk up to him and lick his feet to soothe him when he cried, or sometimes Ben would lay by Elliott's crib when Elliott was sleeping.

Ben's favorite toy is his stuffed "piggy", and he loves to chase the piggy around the living room - I've had to sew Piggy back up three or four times!  Ben pretends to growl at me when I try to take Piggy off him, although he really just knows I'm going to throw it for him.  Ben loooooooves his duck jerky treats, and will almost do a back flip to get one!

He likes long runs and chasing games at the Lyon Oaks Dog Park, and is *super* excited to play with his friends (canine and human!) at Camp Bow Wow- he's always having a good time when we watch him on the webcams!

We’re so glad to have Ben as a part of our camp family! Congratulations, Ben! Wag on!

Winners are announced on the first of each month on this page and in our e-newsletter. If your dog is not chosen right away, don't worry! We save nominations so, chances are your dog will be featured in a future month.
