Pepper

Congratulations to Pepper and her new mom, Kiersten Scarpati!  Pepper is an 8-year old Siberian Husky who was one of our foster dogs here at Camp!  Pepper came to us as an owner surrender through Almost Home Rescue in August.  She spent her first couple of weeks at Camp depressed, wanting to stay in her cabin for most of the day and not really playing with other dogs.  After living with the same family her entire life, who could blame her!  We gave her lots of love at Camp and hoped that someone would stop by to check her out for adoption!  Our wish came true when Kiersten came along!

Kiersten lost her Siberian Husky, Penny, at age 15 in July.  She had adopted her when she was three years old.  Shortly after her loss, a friend of her mom notified her about Pepper.  Being a friend of Jill, one of the owners of Camp Bow Wow, she called her right away to find out about Pepper.  The next day she came to visit her at Camp.  We were all so excited and hoped that she would fall in love with her!  We weren't quite sure how Kiersten felt yet, but we were certain that Pepper had fallen in love with her!  The morning after their visit, Pepper was exuberant and energetic, a side of her we had yet to see!  She was "talking" to us, playing with other dogs, and wanted to be out of her cabin all day!  In the meantime, Kiersten kept thinking about her and came to visit again.  She loved her but wasn't completely sure if she was ready for another dog.  Afterall, Penny had just passed away.  When she began buying things for Pepper, she knew that she was indeed ready to adopt her.  Now they are together for good!!

Here are a few things that Kiersten has to say about Pepper:

"Since I brought her home, she is indeed wonderful. She fits right in. She loves to go for walks and run around in the back yard. I'm a tennis player and she loves to chase tennis balls so I finally have something to do with my old flat tennis balls. Of course, I bought her a bed which she NEVER uses - except to "bury" her favorite toys (anything that squeaks) under - which is an absolute riot. She is also great in the car, just rests her head on the back seat and rides along. Which is perfect in the fall when it is cool enough to take her places - I just throw her harness on and she climbs right into the car and we are off. Of course, no one else will get to ride in my back seat because of the hair - but it's always been a husky-only back seat. She likes to RIDE in the back seat but when I get out of the car to run errands, I tend to find her curled up in the front seat when I get back - which is pretty funny because she barely fits on the individual seat.

Basically, she is great. I still miss Penny but I like to think she is proud of me for rescuing one of her relatives. Anyone out there who is considering adopting a dog - DO IT! It's VERY worth it."

Congratulations to both Pepper and Kiersten!  Also, many thanks to Kiersten for adopting an older dog!  We are so happy that it's working out for both of you!!

So happy together....hanging out at the CBW BBQ!!  They are both smiling!!
