Teeth Cleaning on Friday, December 2nd

We will be holding an anesthesia-free dental clinic for our daycare dogs on Friday, December 2nd.

Dr. Turie Normal of Healing Touch Veterinary along with Cindy Lloyd from Natural Pet have been offering this service for over 8 years now.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to get your pet's teeth cleaned at a fraction of what it would normally cost at your veterinarian.  The cost is $150 per pet.  Dr. Normal will let you know if she finds any issues with your pet's mouth and you will be given a report card when you pick your dog up.

You can sign up at the front desk or give us a call at 303.442.2261 to set up an appointment.

Looking for the Perfect Holiday Gift for Your Pup?

We have some wonderful new dog beds from Bowser's in stock now in our front lobby.  We LOVE these beds for their comfort, fashion and durability.

Our favorite fabric choice is their microvelvet fabric.  It doesn't pill and gets softer after every wash.  It repels dog hair, dirt and even moisture!  Breathable construction ensures that the fabric is 'cool' in the summer and 'cozy' in the winter months.

Bowser uses only 'high-loft' 100% virgin polyester fibre fill for superior memory, resilience and comfort.  They manufacture all their products in-house and inspect each bed to ensure superior quality and craftsmanship.  All their beds have zippered covers for easy care and can be machine washed and dried.

We can custom order any size/type bed with any of their fabulous fabric choices so stop by and spend a moment browsing through the options!  Your pup will thank you!

Winter Safety Tips for your Pet

With the weather changing and the temperature dropping quickly you may be gearing up for staying warm this winter, but don’t forget about Fido’s safety in the cold weather! Here are some safety tips from the ASPCA to consider while you get the whole family ready for the cold weather:

  1. Do not shave your dog down to the skin in winter because a longer coat will provide more warmth. Is your dog a short-haired breed? You should consider getting him a coat or sweater to provide the warmth that the short hair can’t.
  2. Do not let your dog off the leash on snow or ice, and especially during a snowstorm. Dogs can lose their scent and become lost easily, so make sure your dog always wears his ID tags.
  3. Never leave your pet unattended in a car during cold weather, no matter how long you will be gone. The car can act like a refrigerator and hold in all the cold.
  4. Be sure to thoroughly wipe off your dog’s legs and stomach when he comes in from playing outdoors. It is possible he can ingest salt, antifreeze or other potentially dangerous chemicals from licking his paws.
  5. Antifreeze is a lethal poison for pets so be sure to thoroughly clean any spills from your vehicle to ensure Fido doesn’t accidently lick it off the ground.
  6. Puppies do not tolerate the cold weather as well as older dogs, and housebreaking during the winter may become a little more difficult. If your puppy seems to be sensitive to the weather you might want to consider paper-training him indoors until he can handle being outside for longer periods of time.
  7. When it gets cold outside cats like to sleep under the hoods of cars. When the motor is started the cat can be injured or killed by the fan belt. If you know your cat likes to sleep under the hood of your car, or if there are outdoor cats in your area bang on the hood loudly to give the cat a chance to escape before starting the car.

Camper of the Month - Lily

December's Camper of the Month, Lily, the labradoodle puppy, is as happy as a kid at Christmas ALL YEAR 'ROUND!  She's a spunky doodle dynamo all day long, who loves to play with both the Counselors and the pups at Camp.  She's absolutely ecstatic when she arrives in the morning - no caffeine required - zipping around in circles, barking hello.  Lily never has a bad day.  If only we could sell doses of that attitude...!

Favorite game: tug, high five

Favorite toy: anything in her mouth

Dislikes: strange shadows, angry cats

When not at Camp, you can find her: at the dog park swimming, trotting around University Hill

Certified Camp Counselor of the Month - Hilary

December's Counselor of the Month, Hilary, has been with us at Camp since 2009.  She's one of our lead counselors and if you take a peek at her with the pooches, it's easy to see why...Campers love her!

Hilary is a Colorado native with a biomedical science degree from CSU.  She's hoping to get into Physician's Assistant school.  In the meantime, she enjoys acting as one of our canine assistants.

Outside of Camp, Hilary loves to run.  Inside Camp, she loves Sydney (who she's pictured with) along with all of the other pups!

Bow Wow Buddies Foundation Update: Camp Bow Wow Portland, ME has adopted out 90 dogs so far this year.

This year has been a busy one for the Portland, ME Camp in more than one way. To date they have adopted out 90 dogs and placed them in loving furr-ever homes. They have been hard at work attending various local dog adoption events such as the annual Adopt-A-Dog night at the Portland Pirates Hockey game. They are well on their way to reaching 100 adoptions this year, and that is quite an accomplishment to be proud of!

One of their recent dog adoptions was a Husky mix named Juno who was mother to an unwanted litter of puppies. It was very clear that she had been mistreated by her engorged, painful looking breasts from feeding her puppies. She had been dumped on the side of the road with a “Free to Good Home” sign. Gary and Jill, owners of Camp Bow Wow Portland, ME, couldn’t bear to see any more harm done to this poor mama dog so they took her in at Camp and recently found a loving home for her!

The efforts at our Portland, ME Camp have been a great addition to the overall efforts of the Camp Bow Wow Brand Family to find furr-ever homes for pets in need of a loving home. Since 2003 the entire brand has worked hard to adopt out over 5,000 animals, and we will continue our efforts because every animal deserves a loving home.

Furry Regards,

Megan Allen

Fun Fact about Camp Bow Wow: Our Corporate Digs Have Moved!

For five years the corporate office of Camp Bow Wow was located in Boulder, CO. The office was in downtown Boulder, almost at the base of the beautiful flatirons, and within walking distance of the popular Pearl Street Mall.

Now we’ve moved our new location to Broomfield, CO, not too far away from Boulder. While we will miss all the wonderful things about being in Boulder, our new digs have lots to offer including more room for our furry office companions to roam around and play! We are very excited about this move.
