Florida Dog Rescue Helps 261 Homeless Pets

Lisa Moehring, president and founder of Save Our Homeless Pets in Winter Haven, Florida, used Facebook to ask her community to help save 261 malnourished and neglected dogs who had been seized from the local shelter Mid-Florida Retriever Rescue Inc. The Sheriff's Animal Control department investigated the shelter after receiving an anonymous phone tip reporting inhumane conditions at the shelter.
Moehring posted a news release on Facebook calling for volunteers to help rehabilitate the rescued homeless dogs.
Over 50 volunteers showed up bringing donations of dog food, shampoo, towels and other pet care products and offered their Memorial Day vacation time to help the dogs.
It is wonderful to hear of a community coming together to help dogs in need. And, as Lisa Moehring discovered, social media can be a great tool for spreading awareness of community issues and organizing volunteer efforts.
Thanks for resucing and loving these dogs!
